BeASuperhero is proud to announce the release of B.E.F.A.S.T. Be a Superhero, Book 2. The sequel continues the story that started our mission and gives young readers a new adventure built around the six warning signs of stroke: Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, and Time.
About the book
Book 2 picks up where the original left off. It takes the BEFAST signs children learned in the first book and shows them again through a new story, so the lesson sticks through repetition and not memorization. Each sign is shown the way a child would see it in real life: a face that droops on one side, an arm that won’t stay up, words that come out wrong. The story also drives home the step that matters most, which is calling 911 right away.
New in Book 2 is a look at prevention. The book introduces the idea that your health is something you can take charge of, with simple habits that keep your body and brain strong and things to stay away from to keep the chances of a stroke as low as possible. It gives kids something to practice every day and something to bring home to their families.
It is written for kindergarten through fifth grade and made to be read aloud in classrooms, libraries, and at home. It works on its own or alongside Book 1.
Why it matters
Someone in the United States has a stroke every 40 seconds, and most adults cannot name all the major warning signs. Children are often in the room when it happens to a parent or grandparent. A child who knows BEFAST knows when to call for help, and every minute counts. Up to 80% of strokes are preventable, which is why Book 2 starts the conversation about healthy choices early.
